Google’s New Information Agents Can Track Your Favourite Topics

Information Agents

On 19 May 2026, Google revealed “Information Agents” at the Google I/O 2026 keynote. The feature, which has agentic capabilities in search, helps users create, customise, and manage an AI assistant that operates continuously in the background, monitoring topics of interest as they happen and updates in real-time.

Think about it like this: if you’re a sports fan and want to be updated each time a certain sports player makes a transfer to another club, you can create an information agent to notify you as soon as the information is discovered.

What Information Agents Do

The best way to understand what they do is to compare it to traditional search. Traditional search brings up results once it has been prompted. Information agents, on the other hand, continuously search for information after being prompted.

For example, imagine someone is tracking news on a specific company, as they’re an investor. They can set up an agent to notify them when specific news, earnings reports, etc., become available.

The general interface is similar to what most AI tools have nowadays. It can be accessed via AI Mode on Search, and users will just need to enter a simple prompt. From here, the agent will do the rest and notify you if anything changes.

How People Can Use Them Day-to-Day

The use cases for such an AI agent are pretty broad. It can be used for almost anything.

One example is tracking flight prices. You’re able to set up parameters and get it to find you the cheapest flight online, not just via one search but over multiple searches each day for the next however many days. As soon as a flight price drops below a certain threshold, you can be notified.

The same goes for other online platforms. For example, fans of online bingo platforms in the UK may want to be notified of new titles, like Deal or No Deal or Cash Cubes Bingo. With these kinds of AI systems, they could implement systems where, when these new titles are added, you can get notified. The same goes for bonuses. If you’re looking for a specific bonus, you can use the Information Agent to notify you once a UK-based platform is offering it.

Honestly, the logic applies to everything. It could be used to look for the best streaming prices and deals over Black Friday, finding the latest product releases from your favourite brands, or finding the cheapest festival tickets. The possibilities are endless.

When Information Agents Launch

Google has confirmed that information agents are set to be released in the summer. The rollout will begin with Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers in the US. Additional markets will then follow later in the year, most likely being the UK and Europe.

For those who have been following the AI and Google train for a while, you’ll see that information agents are one of the better upgrades Google has made in recent years.

AI Overviews worked well; however, tools like Claude and ChatGPT have outperformed them. Information agents, however, may be what Google needs to regain the top position on the AI ladder.
